‘Be Good Advocates Of Climate Change’

(2017-08-25)The Assistant Minister for Environment and Local Government Lorna Eden has urged the nine contestants vying for the Miss Vodafone Ba River side crown to be good advocates of Climate Change in the week long carnival.

Ms Eden reminded the contestants together with the people of Ba that it was time they take responsibility of the environment they live in.

“We must become more conscious of our surroundings and take pride in our beautiful country.

This is the time for action and I urge you all to make this a long term obligation to our environment, to our cities swandtowns, to our families and most especially to our communities, to our families and their children,” she said.

“This year all towns and cities carnivals have mirrored Fiji’s Global commitment to climate change. In turn each town and city has chosen their own theme and your town of Ba has chosen their own theme and your town of Ba has chosen the very apt theme of, ‘Save our Environment’.

Ms Eden said: “To save our environment there are many basic activities that we can participate in and some of them include; zero tolerance on litter, plating more tress, keeping our surroundings neat and green, harvesting our rain water, using cleaner and sustainable energy, and keeping our waterways clean and clear.”

She acknowledged the girls and wished them well ahead of the week-long carnival.

“I would like to commend the contestants who will be competing this week, you are all extraordinary young women, and wish you well over the next few days.”

“I extend my appreciation to the major sponsors Vodafone Fiji Limited for their support again this year and I also thank Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Fiji Airways,” she added.

Meanwhile, Fiji Airways will be sponsoring a trip to Singapore for the winner and a trip to either New Zealand or Australia for Miss Charity.
