Director General of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Achim Steiner on Wednesday called for coordinated action to fight global warming.
Speaking at the International Environment and Development Conference which runs until Friday in Cuba's capital Havana, Steiner said the effects of global warming not only affect developed nations, but have a global impact.
"We should work as a family within the United Nations to tackle the technological and human challenges and fight climate change," he said.
He praised Cuba's Environment Ministry for its achievements in sustainable development and environmental education. Investment has been made in protected areas and measures have been set up to reduce the impact of extreme weather phenomena in the country, he said.
Steiner arrived in Cuba on Monday to attend the convention, which began the same day and brings together more than 750 experts from 23 nations.
