Trinidad and Tobago urges collective action on climate change
（2014-09-24）Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday urged collective action from all mankind to fight climate change which the county's prime minister called was "the greatest environment threat of this century."
"The greatest environment threat of this century that mankind faces is the impact of climate change," Kamla Persad-Bissessar, prime minister of Trinidad and Tobago, said in an address to the UN Climate Summit, which opened here earlier in the day.
"Ironically, among the most culpable contributors to the quickening of climate change is mankind."
"It is within the double-edged context that we are here today, speaking with and listening to each other, sharing ideas on how we can remove ourselves as environmental liabilities, and all take responsibility for the world our people will live in tomorrow," she said.
"I say this because I believe we are now very clear that collective action is not only desirable; it is imperative," she said.
The prime minister was among more than 120 heads of state or government to attend the one-day summit at UN Headquarters in New York, which aims to raise ambition, mobilize resources, and generate action toward a universal climate deal in 2015.
