(2016-03-22)Tianjin will build and improve about 20 million square meters of public green space in 2016, creating an enjoyable "Beautiful Tianjin", reported the Tonight News on March 21.

Media reports said that ten green projects - including ecological pathways, parks, green communities and green belts around the city - will start this year, helping reduce carbon and dust in the city and increase overall humidity.

By the end of 2016, public green land is expected to cover around 38.5 percent of the whole city space, according to the report.

More green pathways will connect parks, making full use of the space under the overpasses and bridges. Open grounds and construction sites in the city center will be covered with plants.

Open spaces around sport venues will also go green for sports competition and national fitness.

During the 13th Five Year Plan (2016-20), Tianjin aims to turn itself into a “garden city” and builds the green space network system, which makes the city a “green lung” in the ecosystem.
